MAY-AUGUST 2010

MUSINGS FROM MARIJO - A WORD FROM OUR PRESIDENT
The weather lately has reminded me that summer is almost here. I'm looking forward to a slightly less hectic pace and more outdoor time - at least until the heat and humidity send me back to air conditioned indoors. For EGA, summer means we will again be meeting on the fourth Saturday of June, July, and August at the Gaines Township library for all day stitch-ins. I'm especially eager to come to the Casalguidi workshop in August. (Note: If you don't want to do the workshop, you are still welcome to come and stitch your own project in August.)
The other summer business for EGA is establishing a slate of officers for our chapter. Vonnie H., Kelly L., and I have volunteered to be the Nominating Committee. We need to elect a new President, Vice President, Region Rep/Education Chair, and Treasurer. When one of us calls you this summer and asks you to fill one of these offices for two years, please give your chapter some of your time so we can thrive and grow.

REMINDER
Some of our members are allergic to or sensitive to perfumes, aftershaves, and other scents. Our EGA meetings will be perfume/aftershave/scent-free out of consideration for those who have these sensitivities.

ANNUAL POTLUCK
We will hold our annual potluck dinner at the Heather Hills Retirement Village. We'll set up at 5:45 pm and dinner will begin at 6:00 pm. Eileen Bennett is going to give a presentation on the Michigan Sampler Survey, which should be outstanding. You will need no stitching supplies for this. As Peg noted when she was our Newsletter Editor/Doyenne: "You, of course, may want to show off your latest project so we can all see (and decide we absolutely need another project for our stashes). This meeting is always a good time to invite a friend who is interested in embroidery and might be a potential member. A non-member may attend one meeting before joining."
Sign-up sheets for what to bring were passed around at the April day and evening meetings. Otherwise, plan to bring dishes based on the following groupings determined by the first letter of your last name.
Salads - A-F
Desserts - G-K
Main Dishes - M-R
Side Dishes - S-Z

NEWS YOU CAN USE
PAYING YOUR DUES
EGA dues of $43 are due no later than the May potluck dinner so that Claudia has time to mail them to EGA headquarters. Please send them to Claudia D. - her address is in the Membership Directory.

CORRECTION
Membership Directories will be available at the September meeting, not the May meeting as announced earlier.

ELECTIONS, ELECTIONS, ELECTIONS!
For the coming year, we need nominations for President, Vice President, Region Representative, and Treasurer. The Nominating Committee members are Kelly L., Vonnie H., and Marijo. Please contact any of them if you'd like to be considered for one of the open positions. [No, you may not nominate anyone else without their permission - mandatory service (aka the draft) was abolished in 1972.]

AUGUST WORKSHOP - CASALGUIDI ALTOID BOX
Dick H. will be taking us through the Casalguidi project that he took earlier this year. Jane Ellen, the instructor, has agreed to provide the kits or the instructions for the project. To get only the instructions costs $10, and the full kit (instructions, Altoid box, lining, padding, needles, thread, magnetic strip, and fabric) costs $30 plus shipping. Please contact Dick by July 15 with your choice so that he can get them ordered and delivered by August 28. Please contact Dick with any questions.
