MARCH 2012

NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK
Greetings!
It looks like winter is in its last gasp! Thank goodness! I’m ready for warmer weather, opening windows, and getting the yard ready for planting. All that said, we really have had a mild winter, but it seems to have gone on long enough!
The approach of spring gets me to thinking of “lighter” things to stitch. The array of colors that are available is amazing! We aren’t talking just plain colors, we are talking schoolhouse red, lipstick, holly berry, azalea, and about a dozen other shades in the red family. Then there are the shades of yellow, blue and green, and all the variations contained in those color families. That doesn’t even take into account the over-dyed threads! Think of those days when we had just DMC, Anchor or JP Coates! It’s overwhelming at times what the industry has provided for stitchers.
Have you tried a new color? A new thread? An over-dyed? A silk? There are so many wonderful fibers to work with; lots of new projects! Like planting new flowers, experiment with something new in your stitching.
I think I’m going to put some purple and yellow together and see what “springs” from my needle!
Until next month,
Happy Stitching!
Carolyn

New GCC - Taming the Stash Monster
Taught by Laura Smith
Is the Stash Monster taking over your closet, your room, or even your house? Do you feel stalled by a box full of UFO’s (UnFinished Objects) and a stash of beautiful projects, threads, canvases, fabrics, beads, and more? This course can help you get your stash under control. First, you’ll determine your preferences so you can decide what YOU want to keep in your stash and what you can remove. Three ways of clearing a stash are offered, and you can decide which to employ based on how much stash you need to remove. Resources are provided for donating or selling eliminated items. You’ll learn the requirements for archival storage, ways to prevent or solve stash problems such as insects, mildew, and fading. An inventory system will keep you from buying a second or third time expensive books, projects, canvases, or threads that you already have. This course will make your stash work more effectively for you!
Notebook Course: To organize needlework stash
Skill Level: All
Meetings: Four, with written work turned in at the last meeting
Text: $32 per student, 56 pages, comb bound with color photos
